The heat wave hitting Cyprus is expected to peak today with temperatures expected to hit 44C amid yet another orange-level weather warning.
The maximum temperature is expected to rise around 44C across the island and to around 34C on the coasts.
Temperatures are expected to drop to around 38C inland and 30-33 on the coasts on Saturday.
The public is strongly urged to be extremely careful during their outings and to avoid activities that are likely to cause a fire, such as the use of tools or agricultural machinery that produce heat, sparks or flame, such as emery, oxygen welding and electric welding.
If someone notices smoke or fire, they are asked to call 199 (Fire Service), 155 (Police), 177 (Forest Fire Service) or 101 (Civil Defence Organisation).
The statement also reminded that lighting fires without a permit between May 1 and 31 October is prohibited and constitutes a punishable offence.
