Mahmut Özer, the Chairman of the Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and former minister, along with his delegation, continued their official engagements today.
As part of their visit, the delegation was received by Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu.
During Thursday’s meeting with the TRNC Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu, the Chairman of the Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Mahmut Özer emphasized the ever-increasing cooperation between the Republic of Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in the field of education, considering it a national cause that transcends government changes.
Özer expressed his pleasure in contributing to the improvement of the infrastructure and quality of educational institutions in the TRNC, drawing on his experience as a former minister.
Highlighting the strong advocacy by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for the rightful cause of the Turkish Cypriot people on international platforms, Özer noted Erdoğan’s significant initiatives towards the recognition of the TRNC.
“In this context, the positive steps taken by the Organization of Turkic States regarding the recognition of the TRNC will hopefully advance this process to much more favorable stages,” Özer stated.
Özer expressed his satisfaction with the growing cooperation between Türkiye and the TRNC in areas such as education, health, transportation, and infrastructure.
He emphasized that education is the key to ensuring the sustainability of these relations.
The Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu for his part highlighted the strong collaboration he has had with Mahmut Özer, both during his ministerial tenure and on other platforms.
He praised Özer’s dedication, motivation, and sacrifices towards advancing and improving Turkish Cypriot education.
Minister Çavuşoğlu expressed confidence that Mahmut Özer, in his role as the Chairman of the Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Commission of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, would continue to make significant contributions to resolving educational challenges, just as he has in the past.
Çavuşoğlu recalled that during Özer’s term as Minister of National Education, he had sent truckloads of educational materials and appointed 50 special education teachers to the TRNC last year, enabling special education students to receive full-day education.
Later in the afternoon, the delegation held a working meeting with the Administrative, Public, and Health Affairs Committee of the Republic’s Assembly.
Following the meeting, the delegation attended a luncheon hosted in their honor by Minister of National Education Nazım Çavuşoğlu.
The delegation (will be leaving) departed from the island late this afternooın after completing its contacts.
