The Run Honoring Birkan Uzun Brought Athletes Together

The third edition of the “Birkan Uzun Summit Run”, organized in memory of Birkan Uzun, took place on Sunday, February 23.

The event was organized by the Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Athletics Federation. Participants started the 15-kilometer race from Selvili Tepe, which bears Birkan Uzun’s name, and finished at the Kozan Picnic Area.

Birkan Uzun’s father, Cengiz Topel Uzun, thanked the participants and mentioned that the race started at -1°C at Selvili Tepe, emphasizing how Birkan Uzun endured tough weather conditions and worked tirelessly for his goals. He also expressed gratitude to LAÇ Municipality Mayor Fırat Ataser, the LAÇ Municipality staff, the Athletics Federation President, and the organizing team for their efforts in making the race a tradition at its designated location.

LAÇ Municipality Vice President Nihat Reyhan stated in his speech that the municipal council had decided to make the race a traditional event, describing it as a source of pride for the region.

Athletics Federation President Ferhat Sakallı also spoke, affirming that the federation would continue to do its best to honor Birkan Uzun’s legacy. He thanked all the participants who competed despite the cold weather.

After the race, a ceremony was held to award medals to the top finishers, followed by a group photo to commemorate the event.
