A new era in the National Unity Party (UBP).
Following Ünal Üstel’s election as the leader of the National Unity Party with 65.8% of the votes, the Party Assembly has also been determined.
The unofficial 70-person list for the National Unity Party’s (UBP) Party Assembly has been announced.
In six districts, names were listed under the Party Assembly, Women’s Quota, and Youth Quota categories. However, no elections were held for the Girne Women’s Quota and the İskele Youth Quota.
According to the results, İsmail Demirci from the İskele Party Assembly received the highest number of votes with 4,865; Ziya Kasım from Gazimağusa PM followed with 4,345 votes; and Ömür Ekendal from Lefke PM came third with 4,196 votes.
As per the UBP headquarters’ statement, objections to the published lists can be submitted within 48 hours.
At the 23rd Ordinary Congress held by UBP on Saturday, out of approximately 21,000 members, 10,134 voted at 13 polling stations.
In the congress, where Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, currently heading the UBP-DP-YDP coalition government, competed against Lefkoşa MP Hasan Taçoy and Ahmet Melih Karavelioğlu, Üstel received 6,555 votes, Taçoy 3,284, and Karavelioğlu 121, while 176 votes were invalid.
Having secured 65.8% of the votes at the 23rd Ordinary Congress, Üstel will continue as UBP leader for another three years.
A total of 122 candidates competed for the 70-member Party Council.brt
