Three ombudspersons hold joint meeting

Türkiye’s Chief Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç and Azerbaijan’s Human Rights Commissioner Sabina Aliyeva continued their official visit to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus with a visit to their Turkish Cypriot counterpart İlkan Varol.

The visit further solidified the commitment to cooperation and solidarity among the ombudsmen of Turkish states.

Welcoming Şeref Malkoç and Sabina Aliyeva, Ombudswoman Varol expressed his pleasure in being part of the Union of Turkic States Ombudsmen.

“I am confident that our collaboration will grow stronger with more productive efforts in the future,” Varol said, emphasizing the importance of ongoing and future joint initiatives.

Also speaking, Sabina Aliyeva expressed her long-standing intention to visit and her happiness at being in the TRNC.

She highlighted the mutual support between the nations, saying, “We always support each other everywhere and will continue to do so,” and thanked her hosts for their hospitality.

Türkiye’s Chief Ombudsman Şeref Malkoç noted the significant impact of the TRNC’s participation in the Union of Turkish States Ombudsmen, enhancing the union’s activities.

Reflecting on the peace and stability in Cyprus since 1974, Malkoç expressed hope that many countries would soon recognize the Turkish state in Cyprus, opening new avenues for the TRNC.

He emphasized, “The strongest aspect of the TRNC is its just cause. The just are the most powerful, and those who uphold the law are the most superior. While political recognition may take time, our unity and solidarity are crucial.”

Malkoç reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the TRNC in human rights and legal matters, regardless of the political timeline. “Even if political progress takes time, we will always support the TRNC in human rights and law,” he stated.

Following their meeting with Varol, Malkoç and Aliyeva also visited Attorney General Sarper Altıncık and Bars’ Association President Hasan Esendağlı, further strengthening the ties between their respective legal and human rights institutions.brt
