Acting President Zorlu Töre attended the Azerbaijan Independence Day celebration at the Atatürk Cultural Center in Lefkoşa held this past weekend.
In his speech, Töre highlighted the opposition from the UN, the US, and the EU towards the establishment of two states on the island of Cyprus, attributing this stance to the Turkish identity of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).
He emphasized the significance of the developing relations between the TRNC and Azerbaijan, predicting that the establishment of a friendship group would herald greater achievements in the future.
Declaring, “Three states, one nation,” Töre pointed to the prominence of Azerbaijan among other Turkic states.
He praised the heroic efforts in Nagorno-Karabakh, which he described as a golden chapter in history, honouring the memory of martyrs and veterans.
Töre also recited verses from the Turkish national anthem, underscoring that heroism is rooted in the unity and solidarity of the Turkish world.
Expressing his pride in being a member of the Turkish nation, Töre affirmed his unwavering commitment to serving it.
Azerbaijani MP Elman Nasirov also spoke at the event, mentioning the friendship group formed with the TRNC.
He anticipated the initiation of embassy and consulate activities and highlighted the pivotal role of Turkish states in the recognition of the TRNC.
Nasirov voiced optimism about the near recognition of the TRNC, calling on Turkish states to support this goal.
The celebration concluded with performances of traditional songs and dances, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the region. brt
