TRNC leaders call for restraint amid escalating Pakistan-India tensions

As tensions between Pakistan and India continue to rise, President Ersin Tatar and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel have issued separate but aligned calls for calm, urging all parties to avoid further escalation and commit to diplomatic solutions.

In a written statement, President Tatar expressed deep concern over India’s recent military actions against Pakistan, warning that such unilateral moves could provoke a wider conflict in Asia. “No country can resolve complex and historic disputes through military means in today’s world,” he said.

Tatar underlined that attacks targeting civilians and civilian areas are unacceptable and emphasised the need for the crisis to be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy.

He also highlighted Pakistan’s close historical ties with both Türkiye and the TRNC, stressing shared concerns over regional instability.

Echoing this sentiment, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel condemned the attacks via social media, stating that India’s actions target not just Pakistan but also peace and stability in the broader Asian region.

“As the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, we fully support Pakistan’s territorial integrity, security, and pursuit of justice,” Üstel declared.

He called on all parties to act with restraint and urged a return to diplomacy to prevent further escalation and maintain regional peace.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued a statement strongly condemning India’s attacks on civilian targets in Pakistan.

The Ministry emphasised the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future and urged immediate steps to reduce regional tensions.

“The attacks carried out by India targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure are unacceptable,” the statement read.

“We hope that all necessary measures will be taken to de-escalate tensions in the region and that such actions will not be repeated.”

Reaffirming the TRNC’s support for Pakistan, the Ministry added: “In these difficult times, we express our solidarity with our brotherly nation, Pakistan.”
