Children across the TRNC will celebrate April 23 National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.
Various celebration events will be held to mark the 104th anniversary of the establishment of Türkiye’s Grand National Assembly, a day dedicated to children around the world by the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk.
The celebrations will kick off with a parade in the capital tomorrow to start the Children’s Day events, organised by the National Education Ministry.
Schoolchildren, accompanied by their teachers and National Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu, will lay wreaths at the Atatürk monument and then walk from there to the Presidency and then to Parliament.
During the celebrations at the presidency, President Ersin Tatar and National Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu will make speeches, while schoolchildren will read poems and put on dance performances.
Later on, Speaker of Parliament Zorlu Töre will host children at the parliament, where various performances will be performed by the children.
On Monday, a children’s delegation consisting of 15 children from five districts will visit state and government officials as part of the celebrations. On the same day, 50 children will symbolically take seats at the TRNC Assembly and hold a meeting on child rights.
On Tuesday, National Education Minister Nazım Çavuşoğlu will make a speech on BRT state television to mark the day. A wreath-laying ceremony will be held at the Atatrük monument. Each school across the country will organise its programme to celebrate the day.
As part of the celebrations, children will also participate in various events, including volleyball, basketball, and sprint events. A painting exhibition, “Atatürk’s Children,” will be opened in the capital.
The semi-final of the 2nd Champion Angles Volleyball Tournament will take place at MAGEM on Friday, April 19, in memory of “Champion Angles”— volleyball teams from Gazimağusa Türk Maarif College who died in last year’s earthquake in Türkiye.
On the same day, sprint races will take place in Lefkoşa’s Atatrük stadium, while a basketball festival will be organized at the NEU’s RA25 Sports Hall on Saturday, April 20.
