The District Attorney of Butler County, Pennsylvania, expressed astonishment at how easily the gunman who attempted to assassinate Donald Trump was able to get so close to him.
“Frankly, I was surprised that he managed to get up on that roof and start firing,” Richard Goldinger said in an interview with MSNBC.
He further emphasised his surprise, adding, “I know we had law enforcement personnel inside the building, so it’s even more shocking that the perpetrator was able to access that rooftop.” Goldinger clarified that the building in question houses a glazier’s workshop.
According to security services, the gunman opened fire from a distance of approximately 150 metres, outside the secure perimeter of the rally. A video posted on TMZ’s website shows the assailant lying prone on the roof of a nearby building, wielding a rifle.
The prosecutor stressed, “I hope the ongoing investigation will shed light on how this happened, but yes, what stands out to me the most is that while we had a former president in our midst, someone was able to get within approximately 140 metres, climb onto a rooftop, and open fire.”
