In honour of May 19th Atatürk Memorial, Youth, and Sports Day, the Turkish Ambassador to Lefkoşa Metin Feyzioğlu, alongside his wife Birgül Feyzioğlu, hosted a reception at the Embassy residence.
The event celebrated successful athletes from various sports groups and young achievers in TÜBİTAK (The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Türkiye) project competitions.
The Turkish Ambassador Feyzioğlu welcomed the attendees at the door and engaged in conversations with the youth.
In his speech to the young guests, he emphasized that Mustafa Kemal Atatürk should be remembered not just for a single day but as a way of life.
Quoting Atatürk, he said, “To see him means not just to see his face but to understand his ideas.” Ambassador Feyzioğlu added, “We are following in the footsteps of Atatürk’s thoughts.”
He highlighted the close relationship between Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), particularly in sports, noting their solidarity in all fields.
Ambassador Feyzioğlu expressed satisfaction with the support given to the youth, emphasizing that an athlete’s character, hard work and achievements define their identity.
Towards the end of his speech, Feyzioğlu thanked the press for their coverage of the event. A special moment during the reception was the surprise celebration of TRT cameraman Mustafa Fidan’s birthday, marked with a cake.
The reception underscored the enduring influence of Atatürk’s principles and the importance of nurturing the next generation’s talents and character.
