
The Turkish Cypriot Teachers’ Union (KTÖS) and the Greek Cypriot Primary School Teachers’ Union (POED) came together in Güzelyurt on Friday for a friendly football match aimed at promoting peace, mutual understanding and a shared future in Cyprus.
The match, held at the Güzelyurt (Morphou) Üner Berkalp Stadium, served as a symbolic gesture from both communities, delivering a message that “living together and solidarity are possible.”
Maviş “We are coming together responsibly”
Speaking after the event, KTÖS Secretary-General Burak Maviş highlighted the longstanding friendship between the two unions. He said primary school teachers chose to unite through sports to advocate for peace and friendship, underscoring the unions’ sense of responsibility in taking part in this initiative.
Maviş reaffirmed KTÖS and POED’s commitment to strengthening social bonds through similar joint activities and contributing to the broader goal of reunifying the island.
