Turkish Labour and Trade Ministers in the TRNC

The Turkish Minister of Labour and Social Security, Vedat Işıkhan, accompanied by a delegation, is in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus for a series of official contacts.

During the two-day visit, Işıkhan and his accompanying delegation will visit various state and government officials.

The Turkish Minister embarked on his contacts this morning by first visiting the Acting President and Speaker of the Republic’s Assembly Zorlu Töre.

Following this, he visited the tombs of the late Turkish Cypriot leader Dr Fazıl Küçük and Founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş to pay his respects.

Minister Işıkhan’s itinerary includes meetings with his counterpart, Minister of Labour and Social Security Sadık Gardiyanoğlu, and Prime Minister Ünal Üstel.

These meetings are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral cooperation in labour and social security matters between Türkiye and Northern Cyprus.

In addition to these meetings, Minister Işıkhan will attend the Certificate Ceremony at the Labour and Social Security Training and Research Centre.

Minister Vedat Işıkhan is scheduled to conclude his visit and depart from TRNC tomorrow after completing his engagements.

Meanwhile, in a significant step towards bolstering trade security and combating smuggling, a mobile x-ray scanning system donated by Türkiye is being handed over to the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus today.

The official handover ceremony which will take place at the Gazimağusa Port today will be attended by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel and Turkish Minister of Trade Ömer Bolat, underscoring the strong cooperation between Türkiye and the TRNC in these critical areas.

The donation is part of a broader collaboration between the Turkish Ministry of Trade and the TRNC Ministry of Finance aimed at enhancing trade security and combating smuggling.

The mobile X-ray scanning system represents a vital tool in this ongoing effort, providing advanced capabilities to detect and prevent illegal activities at the port.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the handover ceremony will take place at the Gazimağusa Customs Branch Directorate within the Gazimağusa Port.

The implementation of the mobile X-ray scanning system is expected to significantly improve the efficiency and effectiveness of customs operations in Northern Cyprus, thereby contributing to safer and more secure trade practices in the region. BRT
