Turkish MoD slams GCA over Syria meeting

The Turkish Ministry of National Defense (MSB) has condemned the actions of the Greek Cypriot Administration (GCA) regarding its meeting with Syria, portraying itself as the sole representative of the island.

In a statement based on sources from the Ministry, the Turkish Ministry of Defense emphasized that this approach by South Cyprus, acting as though it is the only representative of Cyprus, is unacceptable.

The Ministry’s sources remarked on the recent meeting between the new Syrian government and a delegation from the Greek Cypriot Administration, stating: “For years, the GCA has been indifferent to the conflicts and humanitarian crisis in Syria. The attitude it has displayed—using concepts like international law and good neighborly relations—while acting as though it represents the entire island of Cyprus, is an approach that cannot be accepted.”

Additionally, the sources noted: “The Syrian government has the right to decide who it engages with. We believe that the Syrian government is mindful of Türkiye’s sensitivities in such discussions.”

The Ministry reaffirmed that Türkiye maintains special relations with Syria’s new government and has ongoing exchanges on numerous issues.
