Türkiye battles multiple forest fires

Türkiye is continuing to battle a series of forest fires across Çanakkale, Edirne, Hatay, Manisa, Kahramanmaraş, and Bolu, with evacuations ordered in several areas and firefighting efforts underway both from the air and on the ground.

In Çanakkale’s Kepez region, a fast-moving wildfire—fuelled by strong winds—has forced the evacuation of Güzelyalı, Halileli, and Erenköy villages. Çanakkale Governor Ömer Toraman urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel, while commandos joined firefighting teams on the ground.

Another fire in Ayvacık, which began in a landfill, spread to surrounding forest areas, prompting an intensive air and ground response.

In Edirne’s Enez district, a forest fire in Büyükevren village led to evacuations at Gülçavuş Beach holiday homes.

The Edirne Governor’s Office confirmed that evacuation operations are ongoing. In Hatay’s Yayladağı district, flames erupted near the Syrian border in Arslanyazı, with multiple firefighting units deployed.

Manisa’s Soma district also saw evacuations in Kozanlı after a forest fire broke out, while one suspect has been detained as part of an investigation into the cause.

In Kahramanmaraş’s Göksun district, aerial and ground teams are still combating the blaze.

In Bolu’s Mudurnu district, a fire sparked by sparks from a combine harvester was partially contained overnight, with two suspects taken into custody.

Cooling operations are ongoing.BRT
