Vakıflar calls for measures to protect Bayraktar Mosque

The Cyprus Vakıflar Administration has requested that necessary measures be taken to prevent similar attacks to the one carried out against the Bayraktar Mosque in South Cyprus.

In a statement from the Cyprus Vakıflar Administration, it was reminded that on January 11th, during the afternoon prayer at the Bayraktar Mosque in Southern Cyprus, an attack was carried out by unidentified individuals using glass bottles.

The statement also mentioned that one of the attackers threatened worshippers with a knife, according to witness accounts.

It was stated that the material damage caused by the attack was determined to be 14,500 euros.

The statement added that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which was informed from the very beginning of the incident, had contacted the United Nations Peacekeeping Force officials (UNFICYP), among others, and that it was learned from the police that the attacker, arrested by the Greek Cypriot police, was a drug addict and carried out the attacks unaware of his actions.

It was also noted that under the laws of the South, the person who was briefly detained was released by the competent authorities.

The Vafıklar Administration emphasized that it would follow up on this isolated incident and called on the authorities to take necessary measures to prevent similar incidents and ensure that worshippers are not disrupted. brt
