The municipality of Famagusta started work on a tunnel used to move Turkish Cypriots into the walled city on the night of the 1974 Peace Mission.
According to a statement issued by the Municipality of Famagusta, the first stage of work, which was cleaning, had begun. A segment of the tunnel collapsed.
A previous project by the Municipality of Famagusta involved interviews with resistance fighters involved in the digging of the tunnel, technical personnel, and people who made the journey through the tunnel.
The tunnel was used on the night of July 20, 1974, the day Turkey’s Peace Misson in Cyprus began.
