‘The fourth hearing of the case in which six public officials were found to be at fault in the collapse of the İsias Hotel is being held today.
A verdict is expected from the hearing to be held at the Adıyaman 1st High Criminal Court. Following the prosecutor’s opinion submitted to the case file on January 8 for the defendants, the hearing-at which a decision is expected-is set to begin at 12.30 pm at the Adıyaman 1st High Criminal Court.
A large delegation consisting of the families, Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, some ministers, members of parliament, relevant committee members of the Assembly, representatives of the Bar Association, and journalists is once again in Adıyaman for the fourth hearing.
Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, President of the Champion Angels Keep Alive Association, who lost her only daughter Selin Karakaya at the İsias Hotel, stressed that she expected conscience and the law to meet at the same point.
Karakaya stated that the verdict should be delivered based on possible intent, as indicated by all the evidence, and that what was necessary must be done for this, saying: “This is what we owe to our children.
This is the most fundamental test of justice.”
Pointing out that the stage reached with the prosecutor’s opinion in the Grand İsias Hotel case was not merely a judicial process but a vital threshold for how justice will be defined, Karakaya said, “It is clear that the decision to be rendered carries a historic responsibility both for the lives we lost and for society’s sense of justice. As the families of our Champion Angels and our guides, we underline and state clearly: whatever the outcome, this struggle will not end. We will not stop until the true legal characterisation is made, those responsible receive the punishments they deserve, and this case becomes a precedent-setting justice decision regarding building safety.
“This struggle is being carried out not only for those we lost, but for a country where no life will ever again be lost before our very eyes. We will not remain silent until justice is served; we will not give up,” she added.
