President Ersin Tatar stated that farmers contribute to the value of Turkish-owned property by protecting the land.
Speaking during a meeting with the delegation of the Cyprus Turkish Farmers’ Union, Tatar emphasized his belief that the agricultural sector would continue to strengthen through economic and technological development and sustainability.
President Ersin Tatar received the President of the Cyprus Turkish Farmers’ Union Mehmet Nizam and board members.
Speaking during the visit President Tatar highlighted that the organization, with over 13,000 members, is one of the largest in the country.
He expressed satisfaction that the Union is protecting local land instead of allowing it to be sold cheaply, contributing to the preservation and appreciation of Turkish Cypriot property.
Referring to the COVID-19 pandemic, Tatar reiterated the importance of domestic production and emphasized the need to utilize fertile lands.
He stressed the importance of providing government support within budgetary limits and pointed out the value of agricultural insurance.
President Tatar called for reducing input costs through state support and integrating agriculture into strategic national planning.
He also underlined the need to increase efficiency through science and technology.
Union President Mehmet Nizam for his part noted that agriculture is the sector making the largest contribution to the national economy.
He highlighted the ongoing struggle in a dry climate and briefed the president on challenges in the sector and ongoing efforts.
