Erhürman to Christodoulides: “Accept political equality- We’re ready to build a shared future”

The leader of the Republican Turkish Party (CTP) and presidential candidate Tufan Erhürman has challenged Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides to demonstrate sincerity in efforts to resolve the Cyprus issue by accepting political equality.

Speaking to a large crowd in Kyrenia on Thursday evening, Erhürman declared: “From now on, our interlocutor is Christodoulides. If he walks away from the table again, we will not return to the current status quo. If he’s ready, we’re coming. The Turkish Cypriot people’s will for a solution will be on the table. If he’s not sincere, we will still put that will forward and announce it to the world—it won’t be as easy to manipulate as it is today.”

Erhürman vowed to defend the rights of the Turkish Cypriot people “to the end,” saying: “I will not give up on my land or my children.” He underscored the importance of dialogue and diplomacy, stressing that Turkish Cypriots are “one of the two equal founding partners of this island” and must live as equals. “No one will tell our children, born here, that they came from an illegal port because their parents were born in Turkey,” he said. “All the children of this country will live freely across the island. Together, we are building that future.”

Promising inclusivity, Erhürman added: “No matter what party they voted for, or where they or their parents were born, we are walking with everyone whose heart beats for this land and this people. No one will be left out, no one will be excluded. This country and its people will once again be proud of themselves, their homeland, and their institutions.” (voıcecyprus)
