
A documentary about the Baykal Tunnel, which led the Turkish Cypriots living in Baykal to liberation in 1974 has been completed.
The documentary prepared by director Mehmet Ali Yurdaer and Şengül Musaoğulları with the contributions of the Gazimağusa Municipality met with the audience for the first time last night.

A film documentary on the Baykal Tunnel, which was dug between 1966-1967 and which allowed the Turkish Cypriots living in Baykal to escape into the Gazimağusa Walled City in 1974, was screened for the first time on Monday at the historic Bandabuliya or Municipal Market building.
In his speech at the event Gazimağusa Mayor Süleyman Uluçay emphasized that the Baykal Tunnel is very important for shedding light on the recent history of the Turkish Cypriot people.
Osman Saner, the architect and engineer of the Baykal Tunnel, stated that the tunnel saved the lives of the people of Baykal and expressed his happiness for contributing to the construction of the tunnel.
Mehmet Ali Yurdaer and Şengül Musaoğulları, the directors of the Baykal Tunnel Documentary, stated that their aim was to contribute to the transfer of history to future generations. brt
