CTP MP Candan spoke at PACE meeting held on the island of Crete

The Republican Turkish Party (CTP) MP Armağan Candan attended the meeting of the Political Affairs and Democracy Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), held on the island of Crete, Greece.

CTP MP Armağan Candan delivered a speech at the PACE Political Affairs and Democracy Committee meeting in Crete.

Candan noted that the European Union had also appointed a Special Representative for Cyprus and emphasized that the improving atmosphere and mutual dialogue between Türkiye and Greece were welcome developments for the region.

He stated that tensions in Cyprus had recently escalated, particularly due to property-related lawsuits and underlined the need to encourage both leaders to make progress on confidence-building measures, especially the opening of new crossing points and the reduction of tensions.

Candan highlighted that PACE is an extremely important platform for fostering mutual dialogue, and called on the Council of Europe — including the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) — to take initiatives in the coming period to improve the situation in Cyprus, particularly concerning property issues and the Immovable Property Commission. brt
