İsias case adjourned to Nov. 6 due to pending expert report

The legal battle for justice continues for the “Champion Angels” who perished in the İsias Hotel collapse during the 2023 earthquakes.

In the second hearing of the trial against public officials found responsible for the building’s failure, the Adıyaman 1st High Criminal Court postponed proceedings to November 6 due to the absence of the expert report.

The second hearing in the trial of public officials held accountable for negligence in the collapse of the İsias Hotel was held on Wednesday in Adıyaman.

The disaster claimed 72 lives, including the Turkish Cypriot volleyball team known as the “Champion Angels.”

During the session, families of the victims were heard in court. Lawyers representing the families demanded the pre-trial detention of the defendants and called for the expert report to be completed urgently. The prosecution also opposed the defendants’ request to be excused from attending future hearings and recommended that their current judicial supervision continue until the report is submitted.

After a recess, the court announced its interim decisions: the expert report will be awaited, and its status will be formally requested.

The court rejected requests for the defendants to skip future sessions, denied both house arrest and detention motions, and insisted that all defendants must attend the next hearing.

A request to hear Ahmet Bozkurt as a witness was also declined.

The next hearing is now scheduled for November 6.
