Işıksal called for full OIC membership for the TRNC

The Special Advisor to the President on International Relations and Diplomacy, Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Işıksal addressed the international conference titled “At the Heart of Islamophobia: Exposing Prejudices, Shattering Stigmas”, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Attended by representatives from over 50 countries, Işıksal drew attention to the struggle of the Turkish Cypriot people.

He emphasized that fundamental human rights—such as freedom of movement, direct trade, and participation in international sports and cultural events—should not be politicized.

Işıksal outlined in detail President Ersin Tatar’s new political vision based on sovereign equality and equal international status.

He underlined that the TRNC is a fully functioning democratic state with all its institutions and is ready to integrate with the world in every field.

Işıksal also stressed that the TRNC expects support from Muslim countries for the lifting of embargoes, stating that the Turkish Cypriot struggle is not only for their own cause but also a stance against efforts to erase Turkish and Muslim identity from the island.

Finally, Işıksal reiterated his call for the TRNC to be granted full membership in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
