The 51st Session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), held in Istanbul, has concluded with the release of a joint declaration addressing key regional issues—including the Cyprus question.
The “Istanbul Declaration” issued at the end of the summit emphasised the importance of developing engagement with the Muslim Turkish Cypriots to overcome the unjust isolation imposed on them. The declaration called for a negotiated, mutually acceptable, just, lasting, and sustainable settlement to the Cyprus issue.
The document reaffirmed the OIC’s principled position on respecting sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity, and national unity, and urged all member states not to interfere in the internal affairs of others.
It also conveyed support for the legitimate rights of the Muslim Turkish Cypriot people and underscored the importance of securing those rights, in line with international justice and cooperation among Islamic nations. brt
