Rain in December reaches 116% of month average

Average precipitation in December reached 116% of the average level for this month in South Cyprus according to preliminary data released on Friday by the Department of Meteorology.

According to the data, the average precipitation between December 1 and 8:00 a.m. January 1 reached 122.8 millimetres, compared with 105.6 millimetres, which is the average level for this month.

Total rainfall from October 1, the start of the water year, until January 1, reached 159.2 millimetres, corresponding to 83% of the average level for this period (191.6 millimetres).

In December, the Polis Chrysochous station recorded the highest rainfall (219.2 millimetres), representing 220% of the average December rainfall for that station, followed by the Stavros tis Psokas area with 249.3 millimetres (154%), the Athalassa station in Nicosia with 83.3 millimetres (144%), and Athienou, with 88.1 millimetres, also with 144%.

In January so far, until 8:00 a.m. on Friday, average rainfall amounted to 0.1 millimetres.
