Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political party leaders and representatives gathered at the Ledra Palace Hotel in the UN buffer zone on Wednesday as part of the regular bicommunal meetings organised by the Slovak Embassy in South Cyprus.
The meeting focused on a presentation by George Georgiou, Spokesperson and Political Bureau member of the Greek Cypriot EDEK Socialist Party, titled “The discussion of the substance of the Cyprus problem at the multilateral conference in July, as a step towards real progress in the effort to find a solution.”
Participants exchanged views, comments, and proposals on the topic.
In a joint statement, the political parties called on all participants of the upcoming multilateral conference to engage in good-faith negotiations on the core issues of the Cyprus problem.
They urged that talks aim at a comprehensive and lasting solution, grounded in UN resolutions, international law, and the European acquis.
The parties also emphasised the need for all sides to implement confidence-building measures in parallel to support a climate of trust and urged the UN Secretary-General to stress the urgency of beginning substantive talks.
The representatives further extended a call for peace in the Middle East, urging all conflicting parties to agree to an immediate ceasefire, halt the violence, and prioritise diplomacy to achieve lasting regional stability.
The next meeting is scheduled for 30 July 2025 and will be hosted by the Social Democratic Party (TDP).
