Türkiye battles forest fires

Forest fire response efforts continue across Türkiye.

By Monday afternoon, fires in Kestel (Bursa) and Onikişubat (Kahramanmaraş) had been brought under control.

In Karabük, firefighting efforts continue for the blaze that began on July 23. However, a new forest fire broke out last night near Kahyalar village in the central district.

Due to the fire, some neighborhoods in Kale and Kahyalar villages were evacuated as a precaution.

In Bursa’s Orhaneli district, a forest fire that started in Yakuplar neighborhood and spread toward Harmancık is still being battled by Regional Forestry and fire brigade teams.

In Karabük, the fires that began on July 23 in Safranbolu’s Çavuşlar village and Ovacık’s Kışla village are still active.

Another fire also erupted around 7pm near Kabaoğlu in Kahyalar village.

Firefighting teams have begun responding to the new blaze.

With the fire approaching residential areas, evacuations were ordered in Kale and Kahyalar villages.

Efforts to extinguish the fires in Harmancık and Orhaneli continue under the coordination of AFAD and the Regional Forestry Directorate.

Aerial and ground operations are conducted during the day, with only ground crews active at night.

A total of 712 vehicles and 1,496 personnel are engaged in firefighting efforts in the area.

Farmers from Keles district are also heading to the fire zone to offer support.

Flames have approached the rural Çakmak neighborhood of Harmancık, which had already been evacuated as a precaution.

Traffic on the Orhaneli-Harmancık highway, which was temporarily closed due to the fire, has since been reopened.
