Fire Department warns of fire risk

The Fire Department has issued a warning to the public regarding the increased risk of fires due to extreme heat.

In a statement, the department emphasized that “taking timely precautions is easier than extinguishing a fire” and urged citizens to comply with legal regulations concerning open flames.

The Fire Department reminded the public that, even for cleaning or heating purposes, lighting fires is strictly prohibited until October 31.

The statement warned that fires lit in unsuitable areas can easily get out of control and cause wildfires.

People were reminded of the legal obligations surrounding open flames and were asked to immediately report any signs of smoke or fire by calling the Fire Hotline at 199, the Forest Fire Line at 177, or the Police Emergency Line at 155.

The department also advised the public to keep fire extinguishers in vehicles, workplaces, and homes—and to be trained in their use—as these devices can help prevent small fires from growing into larger disasters.brt
