President Tatar: There will never be any concession

President Ersin Tatar spoke about developments on the Cyprus issue during the opening of the conference titled, “Developments in the Turkish and World Economy and Vision for the Future.”

Highlighting that the new political approach being pursued with the full support of motherland Türkiye was the right path, the President harshly criticized the Greek Cypriot side for its recent increased aggressions.

Tatar stressed that attempts to disrupt stability in the TRNC through threats and arrest warrants against investors, and to destroy hope for a more prosperous future for the entire island through cooperation between the two states, served no one.

Stating that in his meetings with the Greek Cypriot leader, he conveyed the need to abandon such attitudes, President Tatar stressed that while cooperation could be pursued on issues like energy, water, and natural gas, these attacks were undermining the atmosphere, which is a great injustice.

Explaining that he rejected the proposal for a trilateral meeting due to these aggressions, Tatar said this was a diplomatic stance, which he conveyed to UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy on Cyprus, Maria Angela Holguín Cuellar.

“While our goal is to steer certain projects in cooperation between the two states for the benefit of both peoples, their aim and mindset – as you can all see – are to extract concessions by forcing us to surrender and cornering us through all kinds of attacks. Such a concession will never happen” President Tatar concluded.
